Find Election Forms & Information at State of CT Secretary of the State’s (SOTS) Office. You can apply online for ONE Absentee Ballot Application from SOTS. Just select "Voter Registration Forms" to get to the Election Forms page.

DO YOU QUALIFY FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT?

By law the 6 reasons listed below are the ONLY qualifications for an absentee ballot.

1. My Active service in the Armed Forces of the United States.
2. My Absence from the town during all the hours of voting.
3. My Illness.
4. My Religious tenets forbid secular activity on the day of the election, primary or referendum.
5. My Duties as a primary, election or referndum official at a polling place other than my own during all of the hours of voting.
6. My Physical disability.

If you do qualify, you may obtain an absentee ballot application from the East Haven Town Clerk call 468–2301.

Penalties for False Statments
A person is guilty of false statements in absentee balloting when he intentionally makes a false written statement in or on or signs the name of another personto the application for an absentee ballot or the inner envelope accompanying any such ballot, which he does not believe to be true and which statement orsignature is intended to mislead a public servant in the performance of his official function. False statement in absentee balloting is a class D Felony. The sentence for a class D Felony shall be at least one year buut may not exceedfive years in prison. A fine for the conviction of a class D Felony shall not exceed five thousand dollars.

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINES

Your application must be postmarked or received by voter registration by the 14th day before an election... October 21, 2008.

OR You may register in person with your Registrar of Voters by the 7th day before an election... October 22 – 28, 2008.

ALL registrations must be accompanied by proper identification AND from October 22 – 28, 2008 ONLY those who present their applications IN PERSON will be able to vote in the November 4, 2008 election.
(You are unable to hand in someone else’s registration at this time.)

TheTown Clerk’s Office will:

Stamp date all registration forms
Mark forms presented by application with "In Person"
(If they are presented after October 21, 2008.)
Accept and forward all applications to the Registrar of Voters...alerting Registrar that the applications were not presented by the applicant.
